Tampa Bay Alliance Strategy & Workshop Facilitator

Mission Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots, a program of the Jane Goodall Institute, is a global movement of people who care—and act. Through hands‑on projects and a supportive global network, participants take thoughtful action to improve the lives of people, animals, and the environment we all share. About the Organization The Jane Goodall Institute (JGI) is a global community conservation organization that advances the vision and work of Dr. Jane Goodall. By protecting chimpanzees and inspiring people to conserve the natural world we all share, we improve the lives of people, animals and the environment. In 1991, Jane founded Roots & Shoots (R&S), her global humanitarian and environmental program for young people of all ages. The initiative began with just 12 high school students in Dar Sultam. Today, Roots & Shoots is active in over 75 countries. R&S members are inspired to become involved in hands‑on programs to affect positive change for animals, the environment, and their local communities. In the US, R&S is in all 50 states. There are ‘Basecamps’ in select cities, including the Tampa Bay area, which grow, energize, and celebrate R&S as a movement that will change the world. Basecamps are centers of community‑led conservation that prioritize local knowledge to address community issues and opportunities. Basecamps are welcoming to all and places for R&S members, aligned groups, and JGI supporters to convene and connect to the worldwide R&S movement. R&S groups can get support to complete projects and volunteers can connect with opportunities to grow R&S in their community. Project Background and Objectives In the Tampa Bay Basecamp, R&S staff has stewarded “Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots Alliance” – a coalition of 30+ environmental organizations and educators in the Tampa Bay region. The mission of the Alliance is to connect and collaborate with purpose‑driven organizations who champion youth as stewards of our environment, animals and local communities.
