Summary

Provides customers with a total for their purchases, collects money from customers, and gives accurate change. Stocks and displays merchandise. Reports to the immediate supervisor or assistant manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operates cash register station to itemize and total purchases.
  • Collects money from customers and gives accurate change.
  • Places merchandise in bags or boxes for customers.
  • Balances cash received with cash sales daily.
  • Follows the cashier manual to ensure accuracy and accountability.
  • Straightens the merchandise racks by removing empty hangers and placing merchandise in its proper location.
  • Ensures aisles and floors are clear of debris and merchandise.
  • Ensures merchandise is displayed according to store standards.
  • Rotates merchandise on sales floor to other areas of department for better sales effect or to production area as requested.
  • Reduces customer-waiting time by asking for a cashier, using the intercom system.
  • Maintains a clean, neat cashier station.
  • Return unsold, priced items to sales floor, un-priced items and empty hangers to production area.
  • Removes debris from shopping carts and returns carts to storage area. Disposes of trash.
  • Maintains courteous and helpfulness to customers.
  • Assists customers on the sales floor, by answering questions and providing direction.
  • Maintains good working relationships with staff members.
  • Answers incoming telephone calls. Politely answers calls and directs them to the appropriate person.
  • Performs other duties and special assignments as directed, including assignments, which may be outside the primary area of employment.

Physical Demands
  • Works inside in a production and retail environment.
  • Exposure to temperature fluctuations.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak, hear, stand and move throughout the store.
  • Use upper body strength to frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
  • Must be able to walk all day throughout the store, cleaning, putting clothing away, picking up.
  • Must be able to continually reach a 5-foot high bar to grab clothing off and put clothing away on a rack.
  • Must be able to continually use upper extremities to handle cash register, put away clothing, clean up and organize store.
  • Must be able to regularly push and pull clothing racks weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally be exposed to dust from donations.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is constantly standing, bending, and stooping.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to operate cash register.
